The only choice we actually have

Is non-identification the only thing we can try to “do”?

Gurdjieff said that man cannot do. That we are basically machines, and everything we “do” is just stuff that happens to us.

Looking at my own inner world, this is definitely – experientially – true for me as well. Questioning any behavior, thought, or emotion always ends up in the answer that “it just happened,” I didn’t do anything.

However, I found that maybe the one thing we can aspire to do is not identify with these thoughts and emotions.

Is that the only true choice we have in life? The choice to identify or not.

If so, then that means that everything else that happens to us is just a means to this end. A way to see if we will make the right decision and not identify or if we are still fully asleep and latch on to anything that comes into our experience.
